On Winter Solstice
My warmest season's greetings to all those dear visitors and fellow bloggers with whom I've had the privilege to exchange so many interesting and intellectual comments, ideas, e-mails etc. this year!

Unlike one might think, this photo by Esa Karjalainen wasn't taken here in my native Finland, famous for its pure white drifts, but on our trip to Riga, Latvia, a couple of Xmas Eves ago. When night fell, there was this gentle, fairytale-like snowstorm that covered the streets and squares of the picturesque old town, the riverbanks of the mighty Daugava, and also the happy couple walking in this winter wonderland: -)
