Silver Coast Seashells 4

 made by Taija Mård

Natural and recycled materials being forged into something unforeseen in my Seashell Smithy!

Off to treasure hunging along the boardwalk. These wooden walkways lack a good equivalent in Finnish, so a couple of years ago I invented one here in Portugal, the promised land of passadiços: LAUTATIE :-D

Yay, it's August, the month of férias de verão!

Magnificent marine riches have inspired me to design some home accessories and decor, and this time I've paired seashells with seaglass.

We're talking about special, naturally weathered glass here. It can take anything from 20 years up to 200 for these shards to acquire their shape, texture, frosty appearance and smooth edges!

They are sometimes called reversed gems, since every precious stone is orginally made by nature and then refined by human, whereas all seaglass is originally made by human and then refined by nature.

Bottles filled with raw materials are decorative in themselves!

Hanging jam jar lanterns and vases, some on S(eashell)-hooks!

Embellished cucumber jars make flashy vitrines for pebbles, reeds, flowers, candles, biscuits, sweets, cotton pads and buds...

Merry straw hat fridge magnets for that truly cool beach feeling!

Individual tags for towels, hats, coats...  yet another fun sun hat idea!

Sea things tray, message in a bottle, plated and plain candle sconce cups, golden petals + silver stream arrangements creative compositions to serve as table ornaments.

Welcoming wreaths to greet wine-loving friends and create an atmospheric ambiance...

... and of course, some special place cards when it's time to wish bom apetite!

In Portugal, Midsummer traditions include writing a verse and attaching it to a cane that sits in a manjerico (miniature manjericão, basil). You brush the plant gently with your palm and thus arouse an enchanting basil-like scent!

Needless to say, my São João canes are adorned with beach catch! Plus to go with this whole lazy southern fiesta season, I wanted to also style a hot siesta version!

Simple but sweet Nascita di Venere holders for jewellery, soap, keys, tealights...

Ethereal chamberstick to guide you through the dark.
